Wildflowers, Field of flowers, God picks you

In Deuteronomy 7, as Moses is giving the Israelites God's laws for when they enter the Promised Land, he stops to point out one very important detail. In verses 6-9, he tells the Israelites, "6 For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession. 7 The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. 8 But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath He swore to your ancestors that He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt ." (NIV)

The Israelites were God's chosen people in the Old Testament, but Jesus's death on the cross made it so that anyone who accepts God's free gift of salvation would become His chosen people. Just like God said to His chosen people then, He says to you now that He has chosen you, that you are His treasured possession, that He has set His affection on you, not because of who you are or anything you've done or will do, but simply because He loves you and because He is faithful to keep His promises to His people throughout every generation.

Because God's decision to choose you was based on Him and not you, you can rest assured that nothing you could do would ever change His mind. Numbers 23:19, says, "God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?" (NIV) There's no turning back for God. He will never regret choosing you. He already knew all the mistakes you would make, all the times you would disobey Him, and all the ways you would fall short, and He chose you anyway! Because you are covered in Jesus's blood, it has made you holy to the Lord. So, no matter how you fall short, He will never change His mind about choosing you. He is there with steadfast love ready to receive you, His chosen one, into His open arms always.

So, rest today in knowing that you are, and will always be, chosen by the Most High God!

*If you have never received Jesus as your savior and would like to now, you can pray this prayer: "Father, I know that I have sinned and that the consequences of my sin is death and eternal separation from You. I know there's nothing I can do to earn salvation because it is a free gift from You, so I choose to receive it now. I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that Jesus, Your Son, died on the cross for my sins and that I am now a new creation in Him! Thank you for Your great love for me and for choosing me, once and for all time! Thank you that 'loved' and 'chosen' are my new identity in You. I receive it now, in Jesus's name, Amen!
